In Arabian culture, oud-based perfumes have been known since the dawn of time. The raw material is found mainly in Southeast Asia, and is derived from oud wood. It is grown in its natural state, leaving the tree to be attacked by a fungus, which secretes a sap to protect itself. Distillation of this sap yields the raw material so coveted by perfumers. At Nicolaï Parfumeur Créateur, the Oud we use is from Cambodia, natural and sublime.
Oud, also known as Agarwood, exudes an enchanting, complex fragrance. It gives off rich woody notes, often described as earthy, deep and sensual. These are combined with nuances of leather, smoke and sometimes even sweetness, creating a unique and mysterious olfactory experience.
